Celebrate Juneteenth by Supporting Black-Led Nonprofits With Cryptocurrency Donations

Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans in the United States. While Juneteenth has been observed since 1865, the holiday was federally recognized in 2021. Today, it is an occasion not only to celebrate Black history and culture, but also to recognize the ongoing, unfinished project of creating a more equal society.

In an article on the holiday, America’s Charities notes that “solving these inequities will not happen overnight, but we can work in solidarity to make the necessary systemic changes and begin the process of repairing and restoring as a nation.”

That’s why donating to Black-led nonprofit organizations is one of the best ways to honor the spirit of Juneteenth.

To contribute to The Giving Block’s Crypto For Black Lives fundraiser, consider donating in one of two ways:

  1. Donating to our Civil & Human Right Impact Index Fund using the Donation Form above
  2. Supporting one or more of the specific nonprofits listed below

Why donate Bitcoin and other crypto to these nonprofits instead of USD?

Donating bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit is not a taxable event. That means you don’t have to pay capital gains and can deduct it on your tax return. This means you save money when you donate appreciated crypto instead of US dollars. For international equivalents, the same rules can apply. Always consult your tax professional.
