Why Donate Crypto Directly? Taxes!
There’s a reason high net worth individuals tend to donate property instead of cash. Donating cryptocurrency directly to a 501c3 nonprofit is more tax efficient and can save you money.
The IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property for tax purposes which means it is typically the most tax efficient way to support your favorite cause. When donating crypto, You receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto, and you avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred if you had sold the crypto and then made a donation. That means you’re able to donate more, as well as deduct more on your tax return. The difference? Sometimes more than 30%.
If you provide an email, you will automatically receive a tax receipt after donating.
Why donate Bitcoin?
Since 2016 when the complex humanitarian emergency was declared in Venezuela and given the widespread shortage of medicines and the collapse of the health system, we created our Humanitarian Action Program, called Action4Help, to provide much broader support and assist people with other types of chronic diseases. Our allied organization in Venezuela is Acción Solidaria, and through them, we channel all our donations. So far, the Program has received 147.6 tons of humanitarian aid, including medicines, supplies, doctors, personal hygiene items, food, among others. The help is distributed through two mechanisms. Acción Solidaria has a Community Service Center, through which 138,738 treatments have been delivered directly. At the same time, Acción Solidaria has a network of 120 allied civil organizations distributed nationwide. Through this network, the Program has distributed 4,453,283 units of medical supplies, 22,105,844 unit doses of medicines, and 966,773 units of other items (toothbrushes, diapers, colostomy bags, soaps, crutches, wheelchairs, among others). Currently, the program has support from United Nations agencies PAHO / PAHO and UNAIDS.
