Slice Out Hunger

Mission Statement

Slice Out Hunger is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit that has raised OVER $590,000 to fund hunger relief efforts around the US since launching in 2009. The original idea was simple: use food donated by independent pizzerias to raise money for local food banks and pantries with proven track records. Our first pizza party featured about fifty pizzas from half a dozen pizzerias in NYC and raised about $500. Our last major event IN NYC raised $75,000 in just three hours, featuring 1,700 pizzas from over 60 of the best pizzerias in New York City. The annual event has become an institution in New York City and continues to inspire cities around the country to host similar events. The size of our $1 Pizza Party continues to grow and we’re constantly adding new campaigns to help both communities in need and small businesses alike.

Our organization thrives on fast mobilization and that has allowed us to spring into action when help is needed. We launched Slice Out Special to raise money for No Kid Hungry, Toppings For Texas to fund the Houston food bank after hurricane Harvey, and Pizza Across America to assist homeless shelters in the cold winter months. In late March 2020, we teamed up with Slice and Pizza to the Polls to create Pizza Vs Pandemic, our campaign to send pizza to frontline healthcare workers and first responders across the country. The campaign raised $200k in its first 11 days.

Pizza is a $37 billion industry in the US. Let's face it, we're obsessed. Slice Out Hunger founder Scott Wiener tapped into pizza fever when he launched Scott's Pizza Tours in 2008. Over 70,000 tourists, locals, pizza lovers, and pizza professionals have since attended excursions to significant New York pizzerias with the company. Food tours are fun ways to experience a city, but treating food as entertainment is a luxury that too many people cannot afford. Slice Out Hunger became a way to harness the momentum of our collective pizza obsession to effectively support those who have trouble meeting their own basic food needs.

Tax Savings (read below)

The Giving Block only equips registered charities to accept crypto donations. Because crypto is classified as property by the IRS (and many other tax agencies globally), in addition to a write off, you do not have to pay capital gains tax on donated crypto. Consult a tax professional to confirm specifics. Or contact us to be put in touch with one.

To receive a tax receipt, you must enter your email at the end of the widget. Your email can be de-identified, and you do not need to disclose any personal information on the second page of the widget. Unless you want to stay in touch!

Why donate Bitcoin?

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit our communities hard. Care workers are fighting on the frontlines as small businesses struggle to stay open. With a tax deductible donation, you can support both.

Started by Slice Out Hunger, Slice, and Pizza to the Polls, and funded by people like you, Pizza vs. Pandemic is feeding front line care workers by coordinating large orders with independent pizzerias.

Know of a hospital, clinic, shelter, or other care center that could use some pizza love? Let us know in the suggestion form below and we’ll add them to our queue. We call every care center to verify their need before sending food.

Since we launched on March 21, 2020 we’ve received huge support from The Today Show, Rachael Ray, The New York Times, CNBC, and lots more.

This initiative is a collaboration between Slice Out Hunger, Pizza to the Polls, and Slice.
